چکیده

Deduce expressions for the force on a permanent Ampèrian magnetic dipole with momentmA (due to a loop of electrical current), and for the force on a permanent Gilbertian magnetic dipolemG (due to a pair of opposite magnetic charges), when the dipoles are (instantaneously at rest in an external electromagnetic field. Experiments have been performed to determine whether a neutron [6] has an Ampèrian or a Gilbertian magnetic dipole moment, by studying the interaction of neutrons with magnetized foils. The conclusion is that the neutron has an Ampèrian magnetic moment. To accommodate this case, your analysis should consider that the test moment m is inside a magnetic material. Consider also the case that the external fields include (possibly time-dependent) electric fields, and comment on “hidden momentum” [7] of the system.

Magnetic Aggregation I: Aggregation Dynamics and Numerical Modelling

Focussing on preplanetary grains growth, we discuss the properties of dust aggregation driven by magnetic dipole forces. While there is no direct evidence for the existence of magnetic grains present in the solar nebula, there are reasons to assume they may have been present. We derive analytical expressions for the cross-section of two interacting dipoles. The effective cross section depends u...

Semiclassical Explanation of the Matteucci–Pozzi and Aharonov–Bohm Phase Shifts

When a line of dipoles is placed between the beams of electrons forming an interference pattern, there is a shift in the interference pattern. In the case of a line of electric dipoles, the interference pattern shift was observed experimentally by Matteucci and Pozzi. (1) In the case of a line of magnetic dipoles (a solenoid), the phase shift was suggested by Aharonov and Bohm (2) and was first...

Center of Mass Estimation of Simple Shaped Magnetic Bodies Using Eigenvectors of Computed Magnetic Gradient Tensor

Computed Magnetic Gradient Tensor (CMGT) includes the first derivatives of three components of magnetic field of a body. At the eigenvector analysis of Gravity Gradient Tensors (GGT) for a line of poles and point pole, the eigenvectors of the largest eigenvalues (first eigenvectors) point precisely toward the Center of Mass (COM) of a body. However, due to the nature of the magnetic field, it i...

Classical and quantum interaction of the dipole

A unified and fully relativistic treatment of the interaction of the electric and magnetic dipole moments of a particle with the electromagnetic field is given. New forces on the particle due to the combined effect of electric and magnetic dipoles are obtained. Several new experiments are proposed, which include observation of topological phase shifts.

Optical forces on small magnetodielectric particles.

We present a study of the optical force on a small particle with both electric and magnetic response, immersed in an arbitrary non-absorbing medium, due to a generic incident electromagnetic field. Expressions for the gradient force, radiation pressure and curl components are obtained for the force due to both the electric and magnetic dipoles excited in the particle. In particular, for the mag...
